How to broadcast
What it is for
The chapter How to broadcast walks the presenter through a whole live event on the event page — from testing the camera before the start, through broadcasting, recording and moderating the chat, to ending the event. It covers both event types (Broadcast and Group call) and also what the viewer sees meanwhile.
You broadcast straight from the browser on the Doubleros server, without Zoom and without any other program. A current Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a computer works best.
Where to find it
- In the left menu click Live events → Events.
- Click the event in the calendar or its title in the list.
The event page opens. If you have the permission Events → Edit, the broadcast console is on the left; without it you only see the viewers' player.

Before you start
- The event must exist and must not be Ended or Cancelled — see How to create an event.
- You need the permission Events → Edit (see Permission matrix).
- Have a camera and microphone connected and, the first time, allow the browser to access them.
- Use a computer for screen sharing — sharing is not available on mobile.
What I see on the event page
| Part | What it contains |
|---|---|
| top bar | the path Live events › event title, the status label and the Copy link button |
| picture | the preview, the broadcast or the call; labels in the picture LIVE (the event is running) and Recording (a recording is running) |
| control bar below the picture | camera, microphone, screen and other buttons (see below) |
| below the bar | the event's Starts at and its description |
| on the right | Chat (on a narrow screen it opens with a floating chat button) |
How to test the camera and microphone before the start
With the Broadcast type the event page is in preview mode before the start, with the label Preview — only you. Until you click Start event, nothing leaves your device.
- Open the event page (see Where to find it).
- Below the picture click Start video — the camera turns on.
- Click Unmute — the microphone turns on. While the microphone is on, the button shows the sound level.
- Optionally click Share screen and in the browser window choose a screen, a window or a tab.
- If you want a different device, click the small arrow next to the microphone or camera button (Choose a device). For the microphone the devices are under Microphone and Speaker, for the camera under Camera.
The keyboard shortcuts Alt+A (microphone), Alt+V (camera) and Alt+S (screen) work only after you click Start event, not in the preview.
The browser denied access
If you deny access by mistake, The browser denied access to the camera. Allow it in the address bar — in the meantime you can still share your screen or broadcast audio only. appears (or a similar message for the microphone). Click the lock icon in the browser's address bar, allow the camera and microphone and reload the page.
How to start the broadcast
- On the event page prepare your sources (see the previous section).
- Below the buttons click Start event. Under it is the reminder Nothing is published until you start.
- When you broadcast a picture (camera or screen), the LIVE label appears in the top left corner of the picture.
What happens:
- The event switches to the Live state and viewers see and hear what you broadcast.
- If Record this event automatically was on for the event, the recording starts.
- Sources turned on in the preview are turned on in the broadcast as well. If that fails, The event started, but your camera or microphone could not be turned on. Use the buttons below. appears — turn them on by hand.
- If the broadcast has no source, viewers see an empty picture and you see the prompt Turn on the camera, microphone or screen sharing — viewers see the picture the moment you publish it.
What is in the control bar during the broadcast
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Participants (with a count) | opens the list of people in the event and moderation (see below) |
| Chat | hides or shows the chat; the button is only there in full-screen mode |
| Reactions | sends an emoji reaction everyone sees |
| Take the floor | appears when another organiser is broadcasting and you are sending nothing (see below) |
| Mute / Unmute | turns the microphone off or on (Alt+A); the arrow next to it = choice of microphone and speaker |
| Stop video / Start video | turns the camera off or on (Alt+V); the arrow next to it = choice of camera |
| Share screen / Stop sharing | turns screen sharing on or off (Alt+S) |
| Volume | playback volume on your computer (does not affect viewers) |
| Fullscreen / Exit | switches the picture to full screen and back |
| Record / Stop recording | starts or stops the recording |
| End | ends the event for everyone (see below) |
On a phone or tablet (touch screen) Participants, Take the floor, Record and Fullscreen are tucked into the More menu (in full screen mode also Chat); reactions are at the top of the same menu. Volume is not shown on a touch device — use the device's volume buttons.
Turning off the camera does not end the event
Stop video, Mute or Stop sharing only pause the broadcast — the event keeps running and viewers wait. Only End closes the event.
How to record during the broadcast
- During the broadcast click Record on the right of the control bar (on a phone in the More menu).
- The message Recording started appears, and the Recording label in the top left corner of the picture — viewers see it too.
- To stop, click Stop recording. Recording stopped appears.
The Record button is available only after you click Start event. Each start and stop creates a separate recording. Finished recordings are in Recordings.
What to do when the connection drops
If the connection drops, Restoring the connection… is shown above the picture. When the connection comes back, The connection dropped and came back, so your sources stopped. Turn them on again — a browser never restores a screen share by itself. appears.
- Click Start video and Unmute again.
- If you were sharing your screen, click Share screen again and choose it.
Meanwhile viewers see The broadcast was interrupted — Waiting for the presenter to come back.
If the server cannot be reached at all, The streaming server could not be reached. appears with a Try again button.
How to hand over the floor to another organiser
With the Broadcast type only one organiser broadcasts at a time. Another organiser who has the event page open can ask for the floor.
The organiser who wants to broadcast:
- On the page of the running event clicks Take the floor in the control bar. The same request is sent when they click the camera, microphone or screen share (or use its shortcut) while someone else is broadcasting.
- The Waiting for an answer dialog opens — Request sent — waiting for name to allow it.
- If the other side does not answer, the text changes to name has not answered. They may have lost their connection — you can take the floor without their approval. and the Take anyway button appears.
- They withdraw the request with Cancel in the same dialog.
The organiser who is broadcasting sees the Request for the stage dialog: name is asking for the floor. Allowing it switches off your camera, microphone and screen share, and they start broadcasting.
- Allow — your sources are turned off and the other organiser starts broadcasting.
- Cancel or closing the dialog — the request is declined and you keep broadcasting.
This is not parallel broadcasting but handing over the stage.
How to end the event
- On the right of the control bar click End.
- The End event dialog opens: This closes the broadcast for everyone and marks the event as ended. Turning a camera or screen off only pauses it — this does not come back.
- Click End.
The event switches to Ended, the room is closed and the chat is closed. The event page shows This event has ended — The room is closed. A recording appears in Recordings once it is processed.
Ending cannot be undone
After ending you can no longer broadcast into the same room. If you need to continue, create a new event.
How to run a group call
With the Group call type every participant joins with a camera and microphone.
The organiser (permission Events → Edit):
- Opens the event page. It shows The call has not started yet.
- Clicks Start the call. The event switches to Live.
Every participant, the organiser included, then:
- Turns the camera and microphone on or off on the call's start screen. Under the button is Nobody can see or hear you until you join. or N already in the call.
- Clicks Join the call.
The call bar has Participants, Reactions, Mute / Unmute, Stop video / Start video, Share screen, Volume, Fullscreen and, on the right, the Leave button. The Chat button is there only in full screen mode; on a touch device Participants, Chat and Fullscreen are in the More menu.
- Only one person can share their screen at a time. If someone else is sharing, name is sharing their screen right now appears.
- A participant without the permission Events → Edit leaves the call immediately after clicking Leave.
- An organiser who clicks Leave gets the Leave the call? dialog — You can rejoin from the waiting screen. Ending the call disconnects everybody and closes the event. with the buttons End for everyone (ends the event) and Leave (only they leave).
After the end the page shows This call has ended.
The group call bar has no Record button.
How to moderate participants
With the Broadcast type the Participants panel is part of the broadcast console, so moderating participants needs the Events → Edit permission. With the Group call type anyone with the permission Events → Create, Edit or Delete can moderate.
- On the page of the running event click Participants in the control bar.
- The Participants (N) panel opens. Next to each person you see their state: On air, Not connected, Removed, No chat, Cannot speak.
- Next to the person click the ⋮ button and choose an action.
| Action | What it does | How to undo it |
|---|---|---|
| Mute now | turns their microphone off at once; they can turn it back on | — |
| Block camera and microphone | they can neither speak nor show themselves | Allow camera and microphone |
| Block from chat | they cannot write in the chat | Allow chat |
| Remove from event | they lose access to the event and its chat | Let back in |
A removed person sees on the event page You were removed from this event — An organiser removed you, so you can no longer watch it or write in its chat. If you think this is a mistake, get in touch with them.
You cannot restrict yourself — next to your own name (marked (you)) there is no ⋮ button.
How the chat works
The Chat is on the right of the event page (on mobile you open it with the floating chat button, in full-screen mode with the Chat button in the bar).
- Click into the Write a message… field.
- Type the text (at most 500 characters); add emoji with the Emoji button.
- Click Send or press Enter.
When the chat is open:
- in the Scheduled and Live states — people can write even before the start,
- in the other states the chat shows The chat is closed.
If the chat is still empty, you see Nobody has written yet — Write the first message and get things going. When new messages arrive while you have scrolled up, the button N new messages appears.
How to hide a message
A moderator (permission Events → Create, Edit or Delete):
- Hovers over the message in the chat — an eye icon appears on its right.
- Clicks the eye icon (Hide message).
The message disappears for viewers. Moderators still see it with the Hidden label and can bring it back with the Restore message icon.
What the viewer sees
A viewer (a member in the event's audience with the permission Events → View) opens the event via Live events → Events or via the link they received.
| What the viewer sees | When |
|---|---|
| The broadcast has not started yet | the event is not running yet (not Live) |
| The broadcast has not started yet — The picture appears here on its own once the presenter goes live. | the event is Live, but the presenter has not turned on any source yet |
| Nobody is presenting right now | the event is running but nobody has a source turned on |
| The broadcast was interrupted — Waiting for the presenter to come back. | the presenter's connection dropped |
| This event has ended — A recording appears in Recordings once it is processed. | the event is over |
| This event was cancelled | the event is Cancelled |
| Event not found (instead of the whole event page) | the viewer is not in the event's audience, the event is a Draft or was deleted |
| You do not have access to this event (in the picture) | the server did not grant the viewer access to the broadcast during the event, for example they were removed from the audience meanwhile |
| The broadcast could not be loaded + Try again | a connection error |
Below the picture the viewer has Reactions, Volume and Fullscreen. If the browser starts the video without sound, the viewer clicks Enable sound.
Who can do this
| Task | Permission needed (module Live Events, row Events) |
|---|---|
| watch an event, write in the chat, join a call | View and being in the event's audience |
| broadcast, start and end an event or a call, record, take the floor | Edit |
| hide chat messages, moderate group call participants | Create, Edit or Delete |
| moderate broadcast participants (the Participants panel in the console) | Edit |
Permissions are set in Organization → Permissions (see Permission matrix).
Common questions and problems
I see only the player instead of the console. Your role lacks the permission Events → Edit.
The message "You are not allowed to broadcast into this event." The server did not give you broadcasting rights — check the permission Events → Edit.
The message "The event could not be started." or "The event could not be ended." Try again in a moment; if it persists, reload the page.
Viewers see nothing even though the event is Live. The Live status was set in the form, not with the Start event button, or you have no source turned on. Click Start video or Share screen.
I do not see the Share screen button. Screen sharing is not available on mobile (Screen sharing is not available on mobile devices.). Use a computer.
The message "Recording can only start once the event is live". Click Start event first.
The message "Recording storage is not configured". Recording is not available for your organization — contact Doubleros support.
The message "You are posting too fast. Try again in a moment". The chat has flood protection. Wait a few seconds.
The message "You cannot write in this chat". A moderator has blocked you from the chat.
A viewer hears no sound. In the player click Enable sound and check the Volume.
