How to sell in instalments

What it is for

This procedure takes you from zero to a form on which the customer pays a product in several card payments: permission at the gateway → confirmation in Doubleros → emails → form setup → test purchase → following the instalments. The rules in detail are in the Instalment sales chapter.

Before you start

  • You have done How to start selling a product — gateway, invoicing, product and sales form.
  • In Organization → Integrations → Payment Gateway → Payment methods, card payment is on for your currency.
  • The permissions Organization → Settings → Edit, Content → Forms → Edit and Sales → Orders → Edit.

Step 1: Get recurring payments enabled at the gateway

  • Stripe — nothing to arrange, continue with step 3.
  • GoPay — ask GoPay to enable recurring payments for your GoID, to approve the recurring-payment wording on the checkout, and for the Account updater service.
  • Comgate — ask Comgate to enable recurring payments for your shop.

Doubleros cannot arrange these permissions for you and cannot verify them.

Step 2: Confirm the permission in Doubleros (GoPay and Comgate)

  1. In the left menu click Organization → Integrations.
  2. In the tabs click Payment Gateway.
  3. Switch on Recurring payments are enabled on my GoPay account or Recurring payments are enabled on my Comgate account.
  4. Click Save.

Switch it on only once the gateway has really enabled it — otherwise the gateway refuses the customer's instalments.

Step 3: Switch on the instalment emails

  1. In the left menu click Organization → Settings.
  2. In the tabs click Transactional emails.
  3. Click the Instalments group.
  4. Switch on Instalment received and Instalment failed.
  5. Click Save.

Step 4: Switch instalments on for the form

  1. In the left menu click Content → Projects and open the project.
  2. In the tree on the left, in the Forms group, click the sales form.
  3. On the Instalment sales card switch on Allow payment in instalments.
  4. In Offered instalment counts pick the counts (for example 3, 6, 12).
  5. Set Instalment interval and Unit (for example 1 and months).
  6. In How to sell select Instalments and one-off payment or Instalments only.
  7. Click Save.

Step 5: Make a test purchase

  1. Keep the gateway in test mode.
  2. Open the published form as a customer.
  3. Choose card payment and, in Payment plan, one of the instalment options.
  4. Read the Recurring card payment notice and pay with a test card.

Step 6: Follow the instalments

  1. In the left menu click Sales → Orders.
  2. The order shows Paid 1/N.
  3. Open it — the Instalments card shows every instalment with its status and date.
  4. If an instalment Failed, agree with the customer; you can collect the rest through Send proforma and Mark as paid, and stop the automatic charging with Cancel instalments.

How to check it works

  • The form shows the Payment plan choice when paying by card.
  • After the first instalment is paid, the order shows Paid 1/N and the customer has access.
  • On the next due date the instalment turns Paid and the customer gets the Instalment received email.

Common questions and problems

The “Allow payment in instalments” switch is disabled. Step 2 is missing.

The customer does not see the instalment choice. They did not choose card, or card is not on in Payment methods for their currency, or the form is not saved and published.

The customer stopped paying. Access is not removed automatically; do it by hand in the membership area.
